Privacy policy
Last updated: 11 October 2026.
This policy explains how we collect and use your personal data when you visit this website, write to us, book a call or study with us. We collect only what we need to teach you and to run the school.
1. Who we are
Marcus English Institute (MEI) is a brand of MB Training Group LLC, a US-registered limited liability company (State of Wyoming) that offers its services globally, with a team working from different parts of the world. MB Training Group LLC is responsible for your personal data: it decides why and how your data is used.
For anything about your data, write to hello@marcusenglishinstitute.com.
2. What data we use and why
For each activity, here is what we use, why, and on what legal basis.
When you visit the website
- Technical data: IP address, browser, pages visited and time of the visit, in the server logs of our hosting provider. We use them to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a working and secure website. The logs are kept for a limited time, for security only.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see the cookie policy. Statistics and marketing cookies are used only with your consent.
When you write to us
- Message form: your answers (what you need English for, when you are usually free), your email address and the language of the page. We use them to reply to you and to prepare our first conversation. Legal basis: steps taken at your request before a possible contract. We don't store your IP address with the message. Messages are deleted after 12 months, unless you become a student.
- If you accepted marketing cookies, the form also records which campaign or website brought you to us (for example an ad), so we know which ads work. Legal basis: your consent.
- Course dossiers: if you ask for the dossier of a course for companies, your email address and, if you give it, the name of your company, to send you the dossier and to answer you. We also record when the dossier link is opened and which of its buttons are used, without IP addresses, to know whether the proposal is being read. Legal basis: steps taken at your request before a possible contract. Kept for 12 months.
- WhatsApp: if you write to us on WhatsApp, we receive your phone number, your profile name and your messages. WhatsApp is a service of Meta, with its own privacy policy. We use your messages only to reply to you. Legal basis: steps taken at your request before a possible contract. The same applies when you write to us by email.
When you book the free call
- Your name, email address, the language you choose for the call, any note you add, your time zone and the time of the call. We use them to hold the call and to send you the confirmation, a reminder and the links to change or cancel it. Legal basis: steps taken at your request before a possible contract. Booking data is anonymised 180 days after the call.
- The call takes place on the video platform named in your confirmation. The camera is optional.
When you study with us
- Contact and billing data: name, email address and the details we need for your invoices. Legal basis: the contract, and our accounting and tax obligations.
- Learning data in MyMEI: lesson history, materials, homework, your tutor's notes, progress by skill and test results. We use them to teach you, plan your path and check that it is working. Your tutor and the supervisor see them; nobody else does. Legal basis: the contract.
- Courses for companies: when a company pays for your course, it receives reports on your attendance, your progress and your test results, as set in our agreement with the company. You are told before the course starts. The reports cover the course only.
- We keep student data while you study with us and for 24 months after your last lesson, so you can come back and find your history. Invoices and accounting records are kept for as long as the law requires.
When you apply to become a MEI tutor
- Your name, email address, time zone, languages, qualifications and experience, your answers to the questions in the form and, if you send them, your LinkedIn profile, a video link and your CV. We use them only to evaluate your application and, if we go ahead, to contact you. Legal basis: the steps you ask us to take before a possible collaboration, and your consent. We delete them after 12 months, or earlier if you ask us.
When you make a cookie choice
- We record your choice with a random code and the date, without your IP address, to be able to prove your consent. Legal basis: our obligation to be able to demonstrate consent. The record is kept for 24 months.
3. What we don't do
- We don't sell your data and we don't share it for other companies' advertising.
- We don't make decisions about you by automated means only. Our adaptive test measures your level; the decisions about your path are made by people.
- We don't need sensitive data (health, beliefs and similar) or copies of identity documents. Please don't send them to us.
4. Who receives your data
Only the people and providers who need it to run the service, bound by confidentiality or by a data processing agreement:
- your MEI tutor and the supervisor, if you are a student;
- our website hosting and email providers;
- the video platform used for calls and lessons;
- WhatsApp, if you choose to write to us there;
- Google (Google Analytics and Google Ads, through Google Tag Manager), only with your consent;
- payment service providers and our accountants, for payments and invoices;
- public authorities, only when the law requires it.
5. Where your data is processed
We are a US company and our team works from different countries, so your data may be processed outside the country where you live. When the law that applies to your data requires specific safeguards for these transfers, we use them: for example standard contractual clauses, or the fact that the transfer is necessary to give you the lessons you asked for. You can ask us for more information.
6. Your rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you can ask us at any time to:
- give you a copy of your data;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- restrict its use;
- stop using it, when we use it on the basis of our legitimate interest;
- give it to you, or to someone else, in a common digital format;
- withdraw your consent. This doesn't affect what we did before you withdrew it.
Write to hello@marcusenglishinstitute.com. We reply within one month. You can also contact the data protection authority where you live.
7. Do you have to give us your data?
No data is needed to visit the site. To reply to a message or hold a call, we need at least your email address. To teach you and invoice you, we need the data listed in section 2: without it, we cannot provide the service.
8. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), give access only to the people who need it and choose providers that meet recognised security standards. The links to manage or join a call are personal: please don't share them.
9. Minimum age
Our services are for adults aged 21 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from minors.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If the change is important, we tell our students by email.
