For companies · Regular path

General English for teams, the base everything else stands on.

The path companies ask for least and need most. A group of 3 to 6 colleagues, the same Cambridge CELTA-qualified MEI tutor at the same time every week, 55-minute lessons, month by month. MyMEI for everyone, a progress test every 2 months, and regular reports to the company.

There is no business English without the English of every day.

Most companies ask for business English. It sounds like the right request: the team works in English, so train the English of work. But when a team struggles in an international meeting, the problem is rarely a missing business word. It's the base: a question that comes out wrong, a verb tense that changes the meaning, a colleague who speaks at normal speed and loses you in the second sentence, a simple word that won't come, so the sentence stops.

Business English is everyday English, used at work. The verbs, the structures and the vocabulary that carry a conversation about the weekend are the same ones that carry a conversation about a delivery date. A course in negotiation phrases doesn't help someone who can't follow a fast question. Specialised English built on a weak base sounds memorised, and breaks at the first unexpected answer.

That's why, for many teams, General English is the right first step, even when nobody asks for it. It's the path we find missing most often, and the one that makes every other path faster later: a team that holds a conversation can learn to present, negotiate or run a meeting in English in weeks, not months. The tutor builds the lessons on the team's work and sector from the start, so the English of every day is practised in the situations people actually meet.

The format

A regular path, month by month.

Not a workshop with a fixed end date: the same rhythm our individual students follow, for a small group of colleagues. A path that lasts as long as the team needs it, one month at a time.

The quote depends on the size of the group and the number of lessons a week. Marcus sends it after the first call. For one or two people, companies use individual and paired lessons.

Four steps

How a team starts

  1. Step 1

    A call with Marcus

A free 15-minute call with the person who organises the training. What does the team need English for? How many people, and at what level? When can they meet?

  2. Step 2

    A plan and a quote

Marcus matches the tutor, plans the schedule and sends a quote for the group. If the levels are far apart, he proposes two smaller groups.

  3. Step 3

    The team shows up

The same tutor, on the same day and at the same time every week. One, two or more 55-minute lessons a week, decided with Marcus in the call.

  4. Step 4

    We check it's working

Every participant has MyMEI and a progress test every 2 months. The tutor and Marcus read the results and adjust the plan. The company receives the reports.

How the path runs

What a lesson looks like

The tutor makes people talk; there is no lecture. Speaking, listening, grammar and vocabulary are worked on inside real situations from the team's week: a call with a supplier, a question in a meeting, a colleague from another office. Everyone speaks in every lesson, and the tutor corrects where the correction changes something. Materials, homework and the record of each lesson are in MyMEI, so what was done on Tuesday is still there on Thursday.

Levels

The path starts from any level, including beginners. Some difference inside a group is normal and works: people learn from each other's mistakes. A substantial gap doesn't, because somebody waits and somebody is lost. In that case we split the team into two smaller groups. Marcus looks at the levels with you in the first call; there is no test before it.

Reports to the company

The company pays, and it sees how the course is going. Marcus sends regular reports: attendance, how the group is working, and each participant's progress by skill, from the test every 2 months. Everyone knows this before the first lesson. If something isn't working, we change it: the plan, the pace, sometimes the composition of the group.

Invoice and payment

A regular company invoice, paid in advance: monthly, quarterly or for a longer period, as agreed in the quote. A lesson cancelled at least 24 hours before is moved to another day or time within 45 days, so the team doesn't lose it.

Continuing, and what comes after

There is no fixed end date: the team continues month by month, for as long as the English is useful. To stop, a simple email at least three days before the end of the month is enough. When the base is solid, many teams add a workshop with a specific goal, like Presentations & Public Speaking or Negotiations & Sales, or move to a custom path for a project.

One person, or two

Under 3 people, the same path runs as individual lessons at €35 per lesson, or as paired lessons with a colleague at €24 per person, per lesson. Same tutor, same weekly slot, or slots, same MyMEI and tests.

One team, one tutor, every week.

Start with a free 15-minute call with Marcus. Tell him about the team and the levels; he sends a quote for the group, and the lessons can start the following week.

Questions about General English for teams

Our team already works in English. Why General English?

Because that's usually where the problems are. When someone loses a fast question, picks the wrong tense or stops to look for a simple word, no business vocabulary helps. General English fixes the base, built on the team's work from the first lesson. Once the base holds, a specialised workshop takes weeks, not months.

What level does the team need?

Any level, including beginners. What matters is that the people in one group are close in level. If they're not, we split the team into two smaller groups. Marcus looks at this with you in the first call; there is no test before it.

How many lessons a week?

One, two or more 55-minute lessons a week, always in the same slot, or slots. You decide with Marcus in the first call, depending on the team's calendar and what it needs.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the size of the group and the number of lessons a week, so Marcus sends a quote for each group after the first call. The company pays month by month, in advance, with a regular company invoice. The two workshops, Presentations & Public Speaking and Negotiations & Sales, have public prices on their pages.

What does the company receive?

Regular reports: attendance, how the course is going, and each participant's progress by skill, from the test every 2 months. Everyone knows this before the first lesson. Participants also have their own MyMEI, with the materials, the homework and the record of each lesson.

Can we stop, or change the schedule?

The path runs month by month. To stop, a simple email at least three days before the end of the month is enough. The slot can be changed, but we advise against changing it often, because a free slot with the same tutor may not be there.
