WHY THIS COURSE
In a negotiation, the sentence you can’t find costs money
You sell in English, or you buy in English, or you negotiate terms with people who are doing it in their first language. Your English is good enough for the meeting. The trouble starts at the exact point where precision starts to matter: the price, the condition, the objection, the no that has to stay polite.
Commercial English runs on register and indirectness, and that’s a different skill from fluency. “That could be difficult” is a refusal. “We’d need to look at the volumes” is a counter-offer. “Interesting, let me come back to you” is usually the end of the conversation. Say things too directly and you read as aggressive; too softly and you concede without noticing you’ve done it. Meanwhile the person across the table is using those signals deliberately, and reading yours.
This course covers exactly that: discovery questions, presenting value, quoting and defending a price, handling objections, trading concessions instead of giving them away, and closing. Four weeks, maximum six people, role-plays built on your own products, clients and real deals. You’ll go into the next call able to hear what’s actually being said, and to say what you actually mean.
No automatic payment. Payment will be requested by email only after enrolment is confirmed.
Course runs with a minimum of 4 enrolees — full refund if it doesn’t go ahead.
Secure payment by bank transfer (free in the EU) or payment card (4% surcharge).
WHO IT’S FOR
This course is for you if
You sell, buy, or negotiate contracts in English: clients, suppliers, partners, internal stakeholders
You present confidently in English and lose ground the moment the conversation turns to price, terms or objections
You agree too quickly in English, because formulating the push-back takes longer than the pause allows
You can’t reliably tell a genuine yes from a polite no, and you suspect it’s costing you deals
You’ve moved into a commercial, account or procurement role where the negotiation now happens in English
Minimum level required: B1+/B2. This course does not cover basic grammar or general vocabulary — it assumes you can already hold a conversation in English and want to make it commercially precise. Not sure about your level? Book a free Chemistry Call before enrolling — we’ll help you work out whether this course is right for you.
OUTCOMES
What you’ll learn in 4 weeks
Every session has a concrete goal. By the end of the course you won’t just have improved your English — you’ll know how a negotiation is actually conducted in English, and how to hold your position inside one.
01
Discovery questions
How to get information without interrogating: open questions, follow-ups, and the phrasing that makes a client explain their real constraint.
02
Presenting value
How to describe your offer in precise commercial English: results, numbers, proof, differentiation. Not a feature list read aloud.
03
Price conversations
How to quote, justify and hold a price in English. Discussing discounts without apologising, and the language that signals your number is real.
04
Objection handling
Acknowledge, isolate, answer. The set phrases that buy you three seconds of thinking time, and what to say when the objection is legitimate.
05
Conditional bargaining
The if/then structures that let you trade rather than concede. How to attach a condition to every movement you make.
06
Saying no and closing
Refusing without damaging the relationship, agreeing next steps, confirming in writing so the agreement survives the call.

WHAT’S INCLUDED
Beyond the live sessions
The real work doesn’t end when Zoom closes. Here’s what you get with every edition of the course.
Professionally curated materials
Before every session you receive materials prepared by the tutor: a stage-by-stage commercial phrase bank covering discovery, value presentation, price conversations and closing, concession planning worksheets you fill in with your own real deal scenarios, objection response scripts with adaptable variations by sector, and a commercial register reference — what sounds assertive in English, what sounds aggressive, and where the line between them actually sits. Proprietary MEI material combined with selected third-party resources. In PDF format — yours to keep, even after the course ends.
Practical assignments
Every session ends with a concrete task to complete before the next meeting: recording a ninety-second value pitch for your own product, writing a price justification email, preparing a concession plan for a deal you’re actually working on.
Coordinated peer-to-peer practice
Some activities between sessions are done in pairs with another participant: negotiation role-plays with one buyer and one seller, each working from a separate briefing sheet, plus cross-feedback on pitches and objection handling. The tutor pairs participants and provides a structured evaluation grid — so peer feedback becomes useful and precise, not just an informal chat.
MEI Certificate — shareable on LinkedIn
On completion you receive a formal Marcus English Institute certificate detailing the programme completed. You can add it directly to the Licences and Certifications section of your LinkedIn profile in two clicks.
Each cohort is led by one MEI tutor from our group course faculty. Your tutor is confirmed when the cohort is finalised — typically just after the registration deadline.

WHAT PAST PARTICIPANTS SAY
Real Feedback
I’ve been closing deals in English for six years and assumed the language part was solved. What I’d never noticed is how much I was conceding just to keep the conversation moving, because building the counter-argument in English took me too long. Learning the conditional structures changed that in about two sessions. The role-plays with a real briefing sheet are what made it stick.
Ana Sofía R. Key Account Manager · Madrid
I sit on the buying side, so I’d assumed a sales course wasn’t for me. It’s the same table. Being able to say no clearly, in English, without souring a supplier relationship is worth considerably more than the course cost. The session on reading polite refusals was uncomfortable — I recognised several of my own.
