WHY THIS COURSE
You know far more English than you can actually say
You’ve studied English. Probably for years. You can read an email, follow a subtitled film, get through a hotel check-in without drama. But when someone asks you a normal question at normal speed, there’s a gap between what’s in your head and what comes out of your mouth. Usually an uncomfortable one.
That gap isn’t a knowledge problem. It’s an access problem. You’ve spent years doing exercises where you had time to think and almost no time actually speaking, so your grammar stayed passive and your vocabulary stayed receptive. Your mouth never got the practice. Nobody becomes fluent by understanding more — they become fluent by speaking badly, being corrected, and speaking again.
That’s the whole design of this course. Eight weeks, sixteen sessions, maximum six people, and most of every session is you talking. Everyday situations, real conversation, correction on the errors that actually block you and deliberate silence on the ones that don’t. You’ll finish able to hold a conversation without rehearsing it first — and, just as importantly, knowing how to keep improving once the course is over.
No automatic payment. Payment will be requested by email only after enrolment is confirmed.
Course runs with a minimum of 4 enrolees — full refund if it doesn’t go ahead.
Secure payment by bank transfer (free in the EU) or payment card (4% surcharge).
WHO IT’S FOR
This course is for you if
You understand much more than you can produce — you know the word, it just doesn’t arrive in time
You translate in your head before speaking, and by the time the sentence is ready the moment has gone
You let someone else answer for you: at work, on holiday, in a group
You’ve done courses, apps, maybe even a certificate, and still can’t hold five minutes of unscripted conversation
You’re planning to travel, relocate, or work with English-speaking colleagues, and reading and writing won’t be enough
You freeze on the phone or on video calls, where there’s nothing to point at
Minimum level required: A2+/B1. This isn’t a beginner course. You need basic present and past tenses and a working core vocabulary — we build speed and confidence on top of that, we don’t start from zero. Not sure about your level? Book a free Chemistry Call before enrolling and we’ll work out honestly whether this is the right course for you, or whether something else would serve you better.
OUTCOMES
What you’ll learn in 8 weeks
Every session has a concrete goal. By the end of the course you won’t just know more English — you’ll be able to use the English you already have, in real time, out loud.
01
Talking about yourself, unscripted
Work, background, where you’re from, what you do all day, what you’re planning. Fluent and natural, not a memorised paragraph.
02
Telling a story
What happened, in the right order, with the right tenses, without stopping halfway to reconstruct the grammar.
03
Asking questions
Most learners only ever answer. Questions are what keep a conversation alive — and what take the pressure off you.
04
What to do when you get stuck
Repair strategies: asking for repetition without embarrassment, buying yourself time, describing a word you don’t have. The single most useful skill at this level.
05
Everyday situations
Restaurants, travel, appointments, shops, phone calls, small talk with a colleague who doesn’t speak your language.
06
Pronunciation and connected speech
Word stress, rhythm, and why native speakers appear to swallow half of what they say. Being understood, and understanding back.
PROGRAMME
16 sessions. Zero filler.
Two sessions a week for eight weeks. Each session has a precise objective, materials shared before the meeting, and practical tasks to complete in between.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
Beyond the live sessions
The real work doesn’t end when Zoom closes. Here’s what you get with every edition of the course.
Professionally curated materials
Before every session you receive materials prepared by the tutor: vocabulary and phrase sets for the situations covered that week — introductions, storytelling, phone calls, appointments — a repair strategy card with the exact phrases to use when you lose a word or don’t catch what was said, a tense reference for narrating real events without stopping to reconstruct the grammar, and a pronunciation focus sheet for the sounds and rhythms that most affect how easily you’re understood. Proprietary MEI material combined with selected third-party resources. In PDF format — yours to keep, even after the course ends.
Practical assignments
Every session ends with a concrete task: a two-minute voice note describing your week, a recorded phone call role-play, a story to prepare and tell. Recording yourself is uncomfortable for about three days and then it’s the fastest feedback loop you’ll ever have.
Coordinated peer-to-peer practice
Some activities between sessions are done in pairs with another participant: guided conversations, question drills, mutual feedback. The tutor pairs participants and provides a structured task sheet, so peer practice stays useful and precise instead of turning into a friendly chat about the weather.
MEI Certificate — shareable on LinkedIn
On completion you receive a formal Marcus English Institute certificate detailing the programme completed. You can add it directly to the Licences and Certifications section of your LinkedIn profile in two clicks.
Each cohort is led by one MEI tutor from our group course faculty. Your tutor is confirmed when the cohort is finalised — typically just after the registration deadline.

WHAT PAST PARTICIPANTS SAY
Real Feedback
I’d been reading technical documentation in English for years without any trouble. Then a client rang and I said maybe fifteen words in twenty minutes. That’s why I signed up. What changed wasn’t my grammar, it was that I stopped preparing sentences in my head before saying them. I run those calls myself now.

I signed up because I was going to Scotland with my daughter and I was tired of standing slightly behind her while she spoke for me. By the fourth week I was ordering dinner, asking for directions and having a genuine conversation with the woman who ran the B&B — about the weather, admittedly, but it was mine. They were also clear from the start that two months wouldn’t make me fluent, which I appreciated. What it did was get me started properly, and I’ve kept practising since.
