WHY THIS COURSE

You know the content. It’s the ten minutes in English that’s the problem.

You have to present in English. A monthly update to the head office, a project handover, five minutes at a conference, a deck for a client. You know the material better than anyone else in the room. You just have to deliver it in a language you don’t fully control, standing up, while everybody watches.

So you do what almost everyone does at this level: you write it out word for word and you read it. It gets you through. It also costs you everything that makes a presentation work — eye contact, emphasis, the ability to take a question without losing your place. And the moment somebody interrupts, the script stops helping and starts getting in the way.

This course is about getting off the script. Structure and signposting so the audience can follow you, pronunciation and pace so you’re understood the first time, the fixed phrases that carry a talk from one section to the next, and a survival kit for questions. Four weeks, maximum six people, and you present in every single session. By the end you’ll deliver ten minutes on your own material from notes, and handle the questions afterwards.

Minimum level required: A2+/B1. This isn’t a beginner course and it isn’t a grammar course — it assumes you have basic tenses and a working vocabulary, and builds presentation skills on top of them. Structure and signposting

A clear beginning, middle and end, and the fixed phrases that tell your audience exactly where you are and what’s coming next.

How to convert a written text into cue cards and key phrases, and deliver from them. The single change that makes you sound like a person rather than a document.

Pronunciation, pace and volume

Being understood the first time: word stress, pausing, slowing down at the points that matter.

Slides, numbers and visuals

How to describe a chart, a trend or a figure in English — and how to talk about a slide instead of reading it aloud.

Handling questions

Asking for repetition without embarrassment, buying yourself time, keeping the answer short, and what to say when you don’t know.

Nerves and recovery

What to do when you lose your place, when the word vanishes, or when someone interrupts. Recovery phrases you can use without thinking.

Professionally curated materials

Before every session you receive materials prepared by the tutor: a signposting phrase bank covering openings, transitions, conclusions and slide references, a cue card template to convert a written script into presenter’s notes, a language guide for describing charts, numbers and trends in spoken English, and a Q&A survival kit — the phrases that buy you time, let you ask for repetition, and keep you in control when someone interrupts before you’re ready. Proprietary MEI material combined with selected third-party resources. In PDF format — yours to keep, even after the course ends.

Practical assignments

Every session ends with a concrete task to complete before the next meeting: recording a two-minute segment of your own talk, converting a written script into cue cards, rewriting three slides so they support you instead of replacing you.

Coordinated peer-to-peer practice

Some activities between sessions are done in pairs with another participant: delivering a section to your partner over video, mutual Q&A, cross-feedback on pace and clarity. The tutor pairs participants and provides a structured evaluation grid — so peer feedback becomes useful and precise, not just an informal chat.
