The MEI Roster: How We Choose Our Students
We do select our students, but not to form an elite club or anything. It’s more about:
- Can we meet your learning needs? 🤝
- Is your availability in sync with our schedule? 🗓️
As for our company culture we’re all about excellence in the substance but relax in the environment, so:
- If you’re the spontaneous type who likes to plan your life on a whim, or you want to book classes whenever the mood strikes, we’re not the drones you’re looking for. We offer a 24-hour cancellation policy to cancel or reschedule your class, but we operate on a recurring timetable.
- If you’re very uptight, constantly critical and nitpick: look elsewhere. We deliver quality, but we do it in a relaxed atmosphere where neither you nor us are walking on eggshells.
Is there a commitment period?
For 1-1 tutoring, we’ve got a month-to-month thing going on. Cancel when you want! 🤗
Minimum two-month fling for paired classes. 2️⃣
As for specific courses, each of them has its own length. ✈️What's the cancellation policy?
For 1-1 tutoring: 24 hours’ notice. ✅
Paired classes or groups? Sorry, a missed class is just missed. You’re not alone, you know. 🤷♂️
In-company training requires a 72-hour heads-up. Need us in Singapore? We’ll talk. 😁Are M.E.I. Tutors Native Speakers?
Good to know:
Selecting solely native-speaker tutors is against EU regulations (Article 21 of EU Basic Rights, EU E-0941 23 May 2003) and perpetuates an unfair myth. Birthplace doesn’t determine your linguistic knowledge, the correctness of your pronunciation, or your teaching ability.Our Cambridge CELTA-certified tutors, native or not, are proficient in idioms and slang, and have a natural accent. Also, familiarity with various accents is beneficial, so choosing based on accent is unwise.
English varies by region and accent; discrimination is both illegal and unethical. While you’re welcome to prefer certain accents and we’re eager to help you master your favourite, discriminating against others – including but not limited to MEI tutors – for their natural accent is unacceptable.
How qualified are your tutors?
Cambridge CELTA-certified worth their weight in gold. Academically trained, business background and years of teaching experience. To all this add MEI specific training and a lovely personality.

Think of it as Tinder for the academically inclined. We match you based on what you need and what our tutors excel at. ❤️
Do you teach children?
Nope, only 21+. It’s like a pub; if you’re not old enough, you’re not coming in. 🍻
Do you teach in person?
In-person? Please, it’s the 21st century 😊
With today’s tech, you get the same quality of instruction from the comfort of your home. No traffic, no pollution, and zero time-wasting. What’s not to love? 😍
Only exception is for in-company Training, that, we still do in-person (if asked politely and offered a welcome coffee 😂)Do you offer discounts for packages of lessons?
Discounts for packages? We’re one step ahead — we only sell packages 😉
Individual classes, for instance, come at €25 a pop, but that’s because you’re already committing monthly (cancel when you want!). Otherwise, they’d be a theoretical €35 — but you won’t see that rate here.What platforms do you use for online tutoring?
We use Zoom. Secure, easy to use, and doesn’t make you want to chuck your laptop out the window. 💻
Also, you’ll have access to our proprietary platform MyMEI 2.0, featuring valuable sections and tools such as: homework, class notes, invoicing, resources, class rescheduling and much more. 💯
What are the payment options?
We accept bank transfers, online payment with all major cards and in some occasions salmon or cheese. 🐟 🧀
Is there a trial class?
Trial class? Lovely idea, but no can do. We’re swamped with requests, and giving out free hours would mean inventing a 36-hour day (worked for free): we would close in a week. 😂What's the structure of a class?
Welcome to 55 minutes of brilliance, all anchored in a proven Oxbridge syllabus and—get this—exclusively in English. No Italian, don’t sweat it. This method’s been making eloquent speakers out of complete novices since 1913. 🇬🇧
Classes are about 85-90% speaking, but not “unorganised speaking classes”, that’s not us! We set the stage with bite-sized reading and listening inputs, the bulk—the meaty part—is all about you putting words into action sparking everything from technical analysis to off-the-cuff debates. 💬
When it comes to nitty-gritty language stuff, we’re relentless. Grammar, syntax, language structures—you’ll get the lowdown on all of it. But don’t think we’re skimping on fluency. This is a full-package deal. You’ll get the balance of accuracy and fluency down to an art form: articulating naturally, tuning your ear, thinking on your feet—the whole shebang. 💯
